An inspiring opening at the Museum of Tomorrow that rekindles the spirit of Rio 1992, setting the stage for bold collaboration and renewed multilateral action on the road to COP30.
Reviving the Spirit of Rio: Multilateralism in a Multipolar World inaugurates Rio Climate Action Week with an international high-level. Central to the opening are Nigar Arpadarai, High-Level Climate Champion for COP29, and Dan Ioschpe, High-Level Climate Champion for COP30, who will highlight the role of the Champions in mobilising climate ambition across stakeholders on the road to Belém.
The session also honours the enduring legacy of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, with opening reflections from RCAW co-convenors Dr Marcelo de Andrade and Malini Mehra, alongside indigenous and faith leader blessings. Keynotes include Hanne Strong (Manitou Foundation) on the Summit’s legacy and H.E. André Correa do Lago, COP30 President-Designate, with a forward-looking address. This gathering of government, civil society, philanthropy and faith communities seeks to spark a collective mutirão for successful delivery at COP30.
