Why it matters

Resilient urban infrastructure can help cities with disaster preparedness and recover, adapt to change, and recover quickly, especially in a world facing rapid urbanization and climate disasters. Such infrastructure include affordable and resilient housing; leverage the potential of urban NbS solutions to absorb shocks and regulate urban temperatures; and improve social infrastructure and related services to ensure equitable and inclusive access to essential needs and resilience capacities.

By 2050, 66% of the world’s population will live in cities; Cities generate over 80% of global GDP, yet are highly vulnerable to climate shocks; US$250 billion: Estimated annual disaster losses in cities today which is projected to rise to US$314 billion by 2030 without resilience measures.
