Key Objective: Climate integrated public procurement

Why it matters

Government spending is a potentially transformative tool for driving market change, promoting sustainable products, reducing emissions, and encouraging innovation. It enhances environmental outcomes, supports green jobs, and can lower life-cycle costs for public services.

Public procurement accounts for about 12–13% of global GDP (approximately USD 13 trillion annually). In sectors such as construction, around 22% of overall investments are publicly funded, demonstrating the strong leverage of Green Public Procurement (GPP) in advancing climate-aligned projects projects.
