Tackling mis- and disinformation and enhancing transparency on climate is crucial because (1) it restores integrity of public information ecosystems, building trust in institutions through diverse, accountable sources and open governance; (2) it empowers societies via media literacy, enabling people to spot and resist false climate narratives; and (3) it strengthens institutional capacity—through oversight and accountability—to preserve free expression while protecting social cohesion, public health, and climate policymaking.
