Reduction of non-CO₂ gases
Methane mitigation in waste captures and reduces emissions from landfills and wastewater through landfill gas recovery, waste diversion (recycling/composting), anaerobic digestion, and improved wastewater treatment technologies.
How this solutions relates to the action agenda
Axis: Unleashing Enablers and Accelerators including on Financing, Technology and Capacity-Building
Key Objective: Reduction of non-CO₂ gases
The waste sector is the third-largest source of human-caused methane emissions. Technologies like landfill gas capture and biogas recovery from organic waste cut emissions while generating renewable energy. Waste diversion and improved wastewater treatment can reduce methane formation, improve urban air quality, create green jobs, and extend landfill lifespans.
