Participants will discuss integrating coral- and mangrove-positive targets into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), scaling conservation finance, and accelerating implementation ahead of COP30 to deliver triple benefits for people, nature, and climate.
Coral reefs and mangroves are ecologically and functionally linked: reefs buffer wave energy and nurture offshore biodiversity, while mangroves stabilize coastlines and sequester carbon. Together, they form the foundation of resilient seascapes that support livelihoods, food security, and coastal protection for over a billion people. Despite their importance, current policies and financing mechanisms remain insufficient, and implementation pathways are often unclear.
This roundtable, co-led by the Coral Reef and Mangrove Breakthroughs, will showcase practical examples of NDCs incorporating coral and mangrove targets and explore innovative financing tools to accelerate conservation, restoration, and sustainable management. Participants including government representatives, UN bodies, financial institutions, and NGOs—will discuss strategies to elevate ambition ahead of COP30, promote cross-sector collaboration, and catalyze system-level transformation with benefits for people, nature, and climate. By highlighting successful initiatives and actionable pathways, the session aims to translate climate ambition into tangible action and strengthen global efforts to achieve the Paris Agreement, Sustainable Development Goals, and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
