Accelerating the shift to renewables, energy efficiency and zero-emission technologies, while phasing out fossil fuels in a fair and inclusive way.

Energy, industry, and transport are responsible for 77 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, making the transformation of these systems the one of the biggest levers for limiting climate change.

Axis 1 in the Action Agenda drives this shift through both supply and demand: expanding and strengthening power grids, tripling renewable energy, doubling energy efficiency, and electrifying transport, buildings, and industrial processes wherever possible.

For sectors that cannot easily be electrified, such as aviation, shipping, and parts of heavy industry, the focus turns to solutions like hydrogen and sustainable fuels. Woven through all of this is a commitment to a just, orderly, and equitable transition, ensuring communities dependent on fossil fuels are not left behind and that the hundreds of millions of people still without reliable electricity gain access to clean, affordable power as part of the process.

Expand renewable energy deployment and efficiency improvements by tripling the use of renewables and doubling energy efficiency, supported by resilient power grids, sustainable transition minerals, and sectoral initiatives in cooling, data centers, and infrastructure resilience.

Accelerating zero and low emission technologies in hard-to-abate sectors

Accelerate the deployment of zero- and low-emission technologies in hard-to-abate sectors through powershoring, biosolutions, green corridors, and decarbonization pathways for aviation, maritime, steel, cement, and road transport industries.

Ensuring universal access to energy

Ensure universal energy access by expanding electricity and clean cooking solutions across regions, supported by infrastructure and public policy convergence, with a focus on underserved areas, including rural and vulnerable communities.

Transition away from fossil fuels in a just, orderly and equitable manner

Advance a just, orderly and equitable transition away from fossil fuels through sustainable fuels, inclusive planning, oil and gas decarbonization solutions and alternatives to unabated coal, aligned with global alliances and sectoral roadmaps.
